Bowling team welcomes new season, tryouts Oct. 16, Oct. 18
On Thursday, Sept. 27 a meeting was held about the upcoming bowling season. Tryouts will be on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18. Being a part of the bowling team can help you improve your bowling skills and help you finally say goodbye to the bumpers.
“Go ahead and try out for it, we accept anybody that really wants to come and join,” junior Bradleigh Boer said. “We [the team] will help you learn to bowl and help you improve.”
Freshman Brooke Kilgore has been bowling since fifth grade and is eager to try out for the team.
“Well I was having fun with just bowling but I want to try something new,” Kilgore said.
The thrill of being part of the bowling team is to see your improvement and qualify to take on bigger events.
“Being able to improve yourself [is the best part],” Boer said. “You can get better at what you do so that you can start competing at a competition level and get scholarships for school.”
Patience, being able to listen to criticism and adjusting yourself are the ingredients that make a good bowler. And you cannot forget skill and technique.
“Bowling involves knowledge like football,” Kilgore said. “You have to know what to do in a situation, like if you have a really hard split you have to know what to do.”
The bowling team welcomes new members with arms wide open.
“We [the team members] are just like ‘hey, come on and join’, it’s more like a family,” Boer said.
