On Sat., Sep. 29, the SMHS marching band competed at Basha High School to take home a winning title. Some of the songs that the marching band played were Rhapsody in Blue, American in Paris, and Cuban Overture. When questioned about the competition several days before it happened, band director Chris Vail expressed how this competition was important to him.

“I’m excited because the first competition is where we’ll find out how we stack up against everyone else,” Vail said. “I don’t know how we’ll do because we haven’t seen anyone else yet.”

The other schools fighting for first place in their division was Liberty, Mesa, Hamilton, Saguaro, Kingman, and Perry High School. Vale assured that all the schools would be super competitive.

The SMHS marching band tried their hardest, and took home the title of fourth place in their division.
