Becca Fitzpatrick stuns readers with third book, “Silence”

Silence book cover

Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick is a must read for any fantasy lovers.

The book, which is the third in a series of four, displays exciting imagery and leaves the reader hooked with every word.

The novel follows the first and second books, with a twist in the plot, amazing the reader at every turn.

The original novel follows the main character, Nora Grey, who is an average teenage girl. As you start the first one, Hush Hush, it comes at you like a typical love story, but this is not the case.  Instead, the plot shifts with every chapter, leaving the reader mystified and refusing to put the books down.

The book comes at you in a whirlwind, with never ending twists as the book comes to a close. I really enjoyed all three books in the series thus far, and I anticipate the fourth book coming out in October.

The book also completely frustrated me, because the main character could not remember anything from the previous five months, and couldn’t remember anybody she’d met then. Being the reader who did know, it drove me insane.

Freshman Hailey Hodges who also read the book agreed with some of my points.

“I loved the book, it had everything in it,” Hodges said. “[It had] romance, action, and it always had you at the edge of your seat. My favorite part was when [her boyfriend] Patch would secretly watch over her despite not being allowed to.”

Hodges also agrees that it’s a great series for anyone to read.

“I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading,” Hodges said.

For an interesting fact, the book titles are an allusion to music. Hush, Hush relates to playing piano (quietly) in a song. Crescendo is the music slowly getting louder. Silence is the rests in the song. The fourth and final book, Finale, is the closing of the song.

For anyone who has not picked up a copy of the first book, I completely recommend it. The school library holds a copy of all three of the books.
