Born to Die brings new sound, not your ordinary pop album
These days music consists of auto tune and repetitive lyrics with no substance. But do not worry; there is hope in the world of music. Lana Del Rey’s new album Born to Die will provide you with a breath of fresh air from all the suffocating copycat artists in the music industry today.
Lana Del Rey has a distinctive, vintage type voice. She calls herself the “gangsta Nancy Sinatra,” and her music influences are Elvis Presley and Britney Spears.
Her newest album, Born to Die, was released on Jan. 27, selling 77,000 copies and reaching the number two spot on Billboard 200. Unlike a lot of artists, Lana Del Rey wrote the album herself. The whole album feels very personal. She put her experiences into the lyrics, which makes them meaningful and original.
The most popular song, “Video Games,” is the best one on the album. It’s a deep, mysterious ballad with a touch of a classic, romantic feel. The lyrics and music perfectly portray all the emotions people experience while in a relationship. It shows within the lyrics “It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you/ everything I do/ I tell you all the time/ Heaven is a place on earth with you.” If you enjoy “Video Games” you will be enchanted by “Radio” and “Summertime Sadness,” which are more of a slow, smooth type of song as well.
“Off to the Races” is the most upbeat song on the album. It has solid beat and a little bit of a Lady Gaga pop feel to it. The chorus is the best part of the song and consists of a sound that is very sixties retro. Additionally, “Radio” and “This is What Makes Us Girls” are the livelier songs on the album.
Lana Del Rey mixes orchestra music, a dash of hip hop beat and rare, descriptive lyrics to create a whole new sound. Her album is exceptionally unique and different than anything out in the music world at the moment. If your playlist is lackluster, download Born to Die by Lana Del Rey and bring a whole new sound to your ears.
