On January 11, members of DECA competed at regionals, receiving the most first place finishes out of all 12 schools that participated.

Over half of the 42 students that competed in individual tests were awarded medals for their scores. First place winners include sophomore Hamza Amjad, junior Usaama Amjad and seniors Brianna Ortega and Tyler Paplham.

First place winners of the role play events include seniors Vanessa Corfield and Nick Riddleberger;  sophomore Hayley HIlborn and junior Christian Cura; and seniors David Garcia and Nathan Gormley. As a whole 18 students were awarded medals for their high performances.

“Students get a case study situation pertaining to the area they are competing in,” said DECA sponsor Tricia White. “They have 10 minutes to analyze, review and prepare their information on how to handle the situation. After 10 minutes they present their decision to the judge and are judged on their decision making and professional presentation.”

DECA members’ next chance to compete will be the state competition on March 4-6. Students who are interested in partaking will need to submit a resume, worth 15 percent of their score.
