Sunrise faces Saguaro in state playoffs

On Friday Nov. 4, the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs went to state playoffs against the Saguaro Sabercats. In preparing for the game, Saguaro’s football record left no doubt in football coach James Carter.

“We’re just going to do what we usually do,” Carter said. “We’ll play our best and get the results we’re looking for.”

With a game plan like any other, winning was believed to be in the future of the Mustangs.

“Nine times out of ten Saguaro will beat us,” Carter said. “It’s like David and Goliath. But we’ll just go in believing that this will be that one time.”

Sunrise Mountain students hitched a ride to the game on the “Mustang Express,” a school bus for just students.

“We want at least one bus full of students,” Assistant Principal Christine Gutierrez said. “Two would be great, but one would still be an accomplishment.”

Unfortunately all the enthusiasm didn’t pay off as wanted, and the Mustangs lost 81-48.
